Taking Shape: Here and There
Opening Reception: Friday, August 16th from 4:30 to 6:30pm.
Cannon Beach Arts Association is thrilled to announce the upcoming art exhibition "Taking Shape - Here and There" featuring the works of Pam Greene and Christopher Belluschi. The exhibition will showcase captivating artworks that explore the concept of form and space in both the familiar and abstract.
Pam Greene, known for her exquisite use of color and light will present a series of paintings that capture the essence of the ocean and the surrounding forest. With an MFA in art and design from Stanford, and an undergraduate degree in botany, she is a perpetual observer of nature’s inspiring forms. As an innovator, Greene approaches each painting as something of an experiment. She likes to be surprised as the composition emerges, and create balance with distilled, delineated shapes using brushstrokes aiming to capture nature’s spontaneity. The resulting pieces have a graphic quality with influences from many years of travel to East Asia, and study of East Asian art. Her work is represented in private collections nationally and internationally, and available through the Portland Art Museum’s Rental Sales gallery.
Christopher Belluschi is a sculptor based in Portland, Oregon. He sculpts reductively from both wood and stone and creates sculptures that are as captivating for the soul as they are for the eyes. He recently returned from six weeks of stone scouting and sculpting in Carrara, Italy. His current body of work reflects his reverence for Italian travertine, a storied, stratified stone which flaunts its bubbling formation in the primordial ooze.
The exhibition will be on display at Cannon Beach Arts Association from August 16th to September 22nd, 2024. An opening reception will be held on Friday, August 16th from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM, where art enthusiasts will have the chance to meet the artists and engage in discussions about their work.

Mel McRobert, Debra Carnes, Rachel Laura, and Elizabeth Pattison
Mel McRobert:
Mel has been a lifelong resident of the Portland, Oregon area, where he discovered his passion for painting at a young age. His artistic journey started back in 1964 when he first picked up a brush in Mrs. Dodge's Art Class. Throughout the years, painting has been his means of capturing and conveying the beauty he finds in the scenic Pacific Northwest. His ultimate goal is to immerse the viewers in the tranquility and splendor of the natural world as he sees it.
Debra Carnes
As a self-taught artisan with over four decades of experience, Debra has been meticulously creating hand-woven pieces from a diverse array of materials. Her art has been showcased in esteemed juried exhibitions and prominent galleries across Michigan, Florida, and Oregon. Drawing inspiration from the vivid hues, intricate textures, and organic forms found in the natural world, her baskets and sculptures are a testament to her dedication to contemporary design while honoring time-honored weaving traditions.
Rachel Laura
Drawn to the majesty of landscapes, Rachel finds inspiration in the beauty that surrounds us. She primarily works with spray paint and soft pastels, mediums through which she crafts a visual retreat that aims to calm the viewer, lower stress levels, and contribute to overall well-being. As observers pause in front of her work, Rachel hopes to inspire a moment of peaceful relaxation. With an Associate degree in Fine Art and a BFA in Industrial Design focusing on product and furniture design, her approach to art is influenced by her background in product modelmaking. This experience lends a unique precision to her artistic process.
Rachel resides in Portland where she works in Project Management and is the mother of two teenagers and a playful goldendoodle. Her work can be found at Whitebird Gallery in Cannon Beach and at Curios on SE Hawthorne Blvd in Portland.
Elizabeth Pattison:
Elizabeth Pattison's artwork reflects her deep connection to the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest. Through her paintings, she captures the interplay of light and shadow in the coastal landscapes, creating a sense of tranquility and harmony. Drawing inspiration from the rugged coastline and lush forests of the region, Elizabeth's work invites viewers to pause and appreciate the fleeting moments of beauty in the world around them. With a keen eye for detail and a rich color palette, she brings a fresh perspective to familiar scenes, infusing them with a sense of wonder and serenity.
