Pacific People, Places, Things

Pop-Up Exhibition: Wet Felting, Needle Felting by Individual Artist Grant winner Glenna Gray
From the artist, Laura Ross Paul:
Pacific People, Places, Things is a love story to the north coast of Oregon. This exhibition focuses on images from the location I, along with my husband and children, have spent forty of our summers. Initially chosen for the proximity to surf beaches, the north coast has become the site of our kids first summer employment, my husbands fishing triumphs, a place for personal renewal, decision making and friendship kindling.
Work produced in my yurt studio has been destined for exhibition in inland cities. But not this time.
The pacific beach is not the same personality as Atlantic beaches. Public beaches differ from private. There is a wildness here. A sunset rather than a sunrise.
Aware many seek artwork as a coastal souvenir, what would I choose to capture in paint? These paintings represent moments that lived deep in my psyche. Many are mere coastal glimpses that have lingered. Some hav been more felt than glanced. These images resonate with the time I have spent in my renewal location.
