                                                          Margaret Fort Terrall

I have lived in Portland my entire life. I went to Wilson High School and the University of Oregon where I received a degree in Art Education and continued on at Lewis & Clark to receive a Masters in Art Ed. I have taught middle school and high school art, illustration at Portland Community College, drawing at the Sitka Center for Art and Ecology and painting at the Multnomah Art Center. I now hold private and group classes in my home studio. I am represented by the Portland Art Museum Rental Sales Gallery. I am a member of a women’s art guild known as LOCAL 14, in which we put on an annual show at the World Forestry Center in Portland. I have participated in Portland Open Studios, The Lake Oswego Festival of the Arts, The Sitka Invitational Art Show and I am a member of the Watercolor Society of Oregon.

My inspiration for my paintings comes from my garden and studio, the beauty of Oregon, the Pacific Northwest and from travels locally and abroad. Subject matter ranges from the still life, landscapes, cityscapes or people and lately more abstract painting. I combine acrylic paint with pencil, crayon, ink and collage materials and with the use of rubbing alcohol, I scrape and scratch into the paint. I also use brayers, stamping, stenciling and monotype techniques. I love rich and bold color, relationships and contrasts of shapes, line and textures. I love layering color upon color with a dry brush technique and seeing the combination of several colors show through.

I have prints available of all my paintings on my gallery website:
