15th Annual Summer Art Camp: July 10-14, 2017

Registration for the 15th Annual CBAA Summer Art Camp is now open! This year we have a wonderful line-up of classes for ages 3-adult. Camp will be held over 5 days at the Cannon Beach Community Church the week of July 10-14.

We offer morning and afternoon classes as well as a supervised lunch hour for students ages 5-12 who wish to remain for both sessions without having a parent or guardian return in the middle of the day.

Morning classes
10am-12pm Monday through Friday

• Mini Doodlers (ages 3-5)                                                                                Teacher: Betsy Mahoney
Small artists will gleefully create their own masterpieces using a wide range of quality art materials. We will develop skills important for school success such as ne motor skills, language, cognitive skills and the ability to listen and follow directions in our enchanting environment. Children will learn to explore and understand their world through open-ended art experiences that emphasize the process of art, not the product.

What sea creatures do you think live in the ocean? Let your imagination take you on a discovery of all things under the water. We will learn to draw and paint the underwater world. Everything from angelfish to sharks and sea monsters will come alive as you play with watercolors.

• Kid’s Yoga (ages 5-12)                                                                                            Teacher: Karen Meili
Students will learn balance and muscle control while exploring the basic postures of yoga. Sun salutation, warrior postures, and more advanced poses will be introduced to facilitate development of strength and flexibility.

• Calligraphy Camp (ages 12-adult)                                                                Teacher: Rebecca Read
This class provides a fun introduction to calligraphy. Students will learn to use a metal-edge pen and work with a variety of art papers and inks to create unique projects such as greeting cards and Weathergrams for the garden. Materials Fee $5

• Mixed Media Magical Ocean (ages 8-adult)                                                                     SOLD OUT

Come explore the magical ocean in this mixed media class. Collage, paint, stamp and stencil whimsical mermaids and mermen on hangable canvases. We will also create a sparkling paper mâché jellyfish to hang from your ceiling.

• Watercolor Techniques (ages 10-adult)                                            Teacher: Sue Scheewe-Brown
Don’t miss your chance to study with the renowned instructor from the Create Channel of PBS. Students will develop a broader knowledge of how and when to use special techniques with watercolors and end the week with a portfolio of original work.

• Jewelry Design (ages 9-adult)                                                                                 Teacher: Lisa Kerr
Design your own jewelry with lettering tools to inscribe favorite words into copper metal charms. Students can make necklaces, bracelets, and a variety of projects in this active class which includes drawing, design and hammering. A materials fee provides high quality jewelry embellishments for your take home projects. Materials Fee $20


Afternoon Classes
1pm-4pm Monday through Friday

Mixed Media for the Minis (ages 5- 7)                                                          Teacher: Betsy Mahoney
Students will use a variety of media to create works of art that are both 2-D and 3-D to discover how using more that one art supply can make projects twice as fun. Young artists will experiment with a variety of techniques – painting, drawing, pastels, paper mâchè, collage, and recycled materials.

• Sketch Book Making (ages 9-adult)                                                Teacher: Barbara Temple Ayres
Discover the fun of making your own journal or sketch book using papers you’ve decorated using simple off -press printmaking techniques. Fill your beautiful books with ink and watercolor sketches.

• Introduction to Printmaking (ages 8-adult)                                               Teacher: Sarah Lippold
Students experiment with color and texture to create collages and paintings. Learn how to think in reverse by creating mirror image originals for the printing process. Discover the excitement of using an authentic printing press – turning the heavy crank and rolling out prints of your design.

• Gelli Plate Painting (ages 9-12)                                                                      Teacher: Meagan Sokol
Discover the fun of using wiggly gelli print plates to create unique abstract papers and paintings. You will make your very own gelli plate and brightly-colored monotype prints that will be fashioned into several projects. Experiment with color, shape, texture and pattern while using objects such as plastic cards, handmade stencils, packing tape, string, seashells, bubble wrap, a heat gun and your own fingernails to create abstract, layered paintings. This class is all about process and experimentation!

• 3-D Weaving (ages 8-12)                                                                            Teacher: Gretchen Douglas
Executing projects in three dimensional space activates areas of the brain that are missed in many educational activities. Students will use brightly colored paper- twine and learn patterns to incorporate into the construction of a basket. Beads will add embellishment to the projects and fast workers may be able to create multiple projects with or without lids.
