2017 Summer Art Camp

15th Annual Summer Art Camp: July 10-14, 2017

Planning for the 15th Annual CBAA Summer Art Camp is well underway, with a wonderful line-up of classes for ages 3-adult. Camp will be held at the Cannon Beach Community Church the week of July 10-14.

We offer morning and afternoon classes as well as a supervised lunch hour for students ages 5-12 who wish to remain for both sessions without having a parent or guardian return in the middle of the day.

Additional classes for the afternoon session are still under development! Please stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks. Registration opens late March.

Planning for the 15th Annual CBAA Summer Art Camp is well underway, with a wonderful line-up of classes for ages 3-adult. Camp will be held at the Cannon Beach Community Church the week of July 10-14.

We offer morning and afternoon classes as well as a supervised lunch hour for students ages 5-12 who wish to remain for both sessions without having a parent or guardian return in the middle of the day.

Morning classes 10am-12pm Monday through Friday:

Mini Doodlers (ages 3-5)                  Teacher: Betsy Mahoney
Small artists will gleefully create their own masterpieces using a wide range of quality art materials. We will develop skills important for school success such as fine motor skills, language, cognitive skills and the ability to listen and follow directions in our enchanting environment. Children will learn to explore and understand their world through open-ended art experiences that emphasize the process of art, not the product.

Watercolor Sea Journey (ages 5-8)                        Teacher: Ireta Sitts-Graube
What sea creatures do you think live in the ocean? Let your imagination take you on a discovery of all things under the water. We will learn to draw and paint the underwater world. Everything from angelfish to sharks and sea monsters will come alive as you play with watercolors.

Paper Mâché Sea Exploration (ages 8-adult)                     Teachers: Kim and Camille Scheewe
Discover the fun of paper mâché by making your own jellyfish sculpture. From there, explore the fun of collage by making mermaids and mermen.

Kid’s Yoga (ages 5-12)                      Teacher: Karen Meili
Students will learn balance and muscle control while exploring the basic postures of yoga. Sun salutation, warrior postures, and more advanced poses will be introduced to facilitate development of strength and flexibility.

Jewelry Design (ages 9-adult)                    Teacher: Lisa Kerr
Design your own jewelry using lettering tools to inscribe favorite words into copper metal charms. Students can make necklaces, bracelets, and a variety of projects in this active class which includes drawing, design and hammering. A materials fee of $20 provides high quality materials for creating ready-to-wear jewelry that can be given as gifts or kept as treasures.

Calligraphy Camp (ages 12-adult)                   Teacher: Rebecca Read
This class provides a fun introduction to calligraphy. Students will learn how to use a metal-edge pen and work with a variety of art papers and inks to create unique projects such as greeting cards and Weathergrams for the garden.

Afternoon Classes 1pm-4pm Monday through Friday:

Mixed Media for the Minis (ages 5-7)                   Teacher: Betsy Mahoney
Students will use a variety of media to create works of art that are both 2-D and 3-D to discover how using more than one art supply can make projects twice as much fun. Young artist will experiment with a variety of techniques – painting, drawing, pastels, paper cache, collage, and recycled materials.

Sketch Book Making (ages 9-adult)                   Teacher: Barbara Temple Ayres
Discover the fun of making your own journal or sketch book using papers you’ve decorated using simple off-press printmaking techniques. Fill your beautiful books with ink and watercolor sketches.

Coloring Haystack Rock’s Creatures (ages 13-adult)                 Teacher: Dorota Haber Lehigh
Coloring is therapeutic, stress-reducing and fun! Learn to mix colors, blend and layer with colored pencils to achieve amazing 3-D effects. Students will receive a Haystack Rock Coloring Book created by the instructor. Coloring within the lines is optional. Students should bring a set of favorite colored pencils and, if desired, other favorite coloring books.
