Get a head start on a a gift for your sweetheart! In this class we will learn the very basics of chain mail, bending and weaving wire into metal cloth. This ancient art can be an incredibly meditative and relaxing activity that once mastered, can provide hours of restful and enjoyable recreation. We will learn some of the basic techniques of the European 4-in-1 and the European 6-in-1 weaves, and time permitting explore some of the more intricate weave patterns such as the Persian and the Celtic using copper metal. We will see how wire is wound, cut and turned into rings for weaving. You will have the chance to create your own chain mail weave art piece in the form of a chain mail bracelet. Come learn the basics and let your imagination lead you to discover the endless possibilities!
All artistic levels welcome in class, beginner +
All materials will be provided for class use.
Student notes: There is a small degree of dexterity required for manipulating copper rings with pliers. Aluminum rings can be made available to those who request it. If you have your own pair of jewelry pliers and want to bring them please do, but know that pliers will be made available for class use.
