Cannon Beach Arts Association Staff
Cara Mico, Program Director – Cara attended Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles, California, holds a B.S. degree from Oregon State University in Watershed Restoration Science and Policy, and is currently attending the University of Oregon for a Masters in Arts Administration and Nonprofit Management, expected June 2017, where she is researching accessibility and equity in arts programming. She is passionate about making art accessible to all and enjoys living on the Oregon coast, where she has made her home for almost 15 years and is excited to serve as Program Director for the Cannon Beach Arts Association where she brings her experience in planning and management to an organization whose mission is strongly aligned with her own. As an artist she understands the importance of the creative outlets and hopes to grow the Associations capacity to bring art opportunities to Oregon’s north coast.
Mary Bess Gloria, Art Camp Director – Mary Bess is a naturopathic physician with a passion for the arts. She has served as Director of the Summer Art Camp program for three years, a project she has enjoyed while working as a stay-at-home mom. She returned to naturopathic practice last year, seeing patients at Astoria Integrative Family Medicine. She sees a spectrum of health concerns, including chronic illness and autoimmunity, chronic pain, women’s health, and gastrointestinal disorders. She also practices manual therapy, a form of bodywork that incorporates myofascial release, trigger point therapy and deep tissue massage. She has a firm belief in the therapeutic benefits of creative engagement. Art is medicine!
Meagan Sokol, Arts Education Director – Meagan began painting at the age of 3 with ample encouragement from her creative family and a natural intuition for making art as part of health and healing. She has continued to pursue arts in several creative arenas after receiving her bachelors of arts degree in Visual and Performing Arts, Art History and Psychology from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs and her masters of arts degree in Art Therapy and Transpersonal Counseling Psychology from Naropa University, Boulder. She has worked with preschoolers, teens and families as a licensed art therapist and currently teaches workshops locally. This year she joins the CBAA team as Summer Art Camp Program Assistant to current Director Mary Bess Gloria and is looking forward to transitioning into directing camp the following summer.
