Fall Intern: October 1 through December 31, 2016
Supported by grants from the Ford Family Foundation and Pacific Power Foundation
Cannon Beach Arts Association seeks applicants to its Intern Program. The fall internship will begin October and run through the end of December. The intern will gain experience in all aspects of working in a nonprofit arts organization.
The fall intern will work with the Program Director in delivering the exhibition program at Cannon Beach Gallery. Activities will include print production, content development for print and web, installation support and liaison with artists. Additional responsibilities will include assisting with delivery of programs and events in the new downtown education and community project space. Included will be event planning and implementation; and educational content development; and the development of marketing and social media campaigns. The intern will also provide support to our volunteers and provide desk cover in the Cannon Beach Gallery as required, dealing with sales and the public.
Many of the skills covered in the intern program are transferable, but will most benefit candidates wishing to develop a career in arts administration, or individuals wishing to gain greater understanding of arts infrastructure, gallery management and audience development. Candidates should have good interpersonal skills, and well-developed communication skills, as well as enjoy research and writing, be detail-oriented, and be able to work independently. Most importantly, candidates should have a strong interest in the arts, specifically visual arts. Knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Photoshop, and Microsoft Word and Excel programs is an advantage, as is some proficiency in conversational Spanish.
Candidates may either be a graduate of a degree program, or be currently enrolled as a student, or exemplify a passion for the arts and arts education. Preferred areas of study: Visual Arts, Arts Administration, Arts Education, Business, Marketing, or Journalism. Candidates wishing to use the intern experience to gain course credits, should check with their educational institution regarding required documentation. Preference will be given to residents of Clatsop County and North Tillamook County.
