Monthly Archives: February 2015

Here is a list of all of the artists who were selected to show in the Winter All Juried Show.

Here is a list of the artists who made it into the show, which was a daunting process with 300 pieces submitted and only 45 selected for the final hanging by our guest curator, Bonnie Laing-Malcolmson of PAM.

Congratulations on everyone who made the cut, it is not an easy process to put oneself out there for a juried show.

Recology will be the Exhibit Underwriter for the 2015 Green Show, Changing Nature.

One of the ways that the Cannon Beach Arts Association supports the Cannon Beach Gallery is by securing Exhibit Underwriters throughout the year. These sponsors are a combination of businesses, art patrons and CBAA members.
This is the fourth year that the Recology Company will be sponsoring the Green Show in April!

There are still several dynamic exhibits in 2015 that need to be matched up with an Exhibit Underwriter. If you are interested in learning more about this program, contact the CBAA’s Executive Director, Andrea K. Mace.

Some information about Changing Nature.
April 3 – April 26, with an Artist Reception on April 4, 5 – 7pm
Oregon artists Lloyd McMullen, Tara Doherty and Steve McLeod investigate the theory that every action no matter how small has a global consequence.
McMullen & Doherty will create a small biosphere using found objects and cast off materials while McLeod will display assemblages constructed of tsunami debris.

Here is some fascinating information about Art at Recology, gleaned from their website. What a progressive approach to running a company, one that is also 100% employee owned! We are excited to be partnering with Recology once again.

Recology San Francisco Artist in Residence Program
Since its founding in 1990, the Recology San Francisco Artist in Residence Program has supported more than one hundred professional and student artists in the San Francisco Bay Area, and has been the subject of national and international press. Each year more than 5,000 children and adults visit exhibitions and attend educational tours that allow the public to interact with artists, while also learning important lessons about recycling and reuse.
The program hosts artists for four-month residencies and provides six professional artists per year with a stipend, exhibition space, and access to materials that would have otherwise gone to a landfill or recycling facility. Those enrolled in art programs at local colleges and universities are also eligible for student residencies. The program was honored with the Acterra 2009 Business Environmental Award for its leadership in Environmental & Sustainability Education. In 2013, a major exhibition of artwork from the program was held at the SFO Museum, featuring over one-hundred works by forty-five artists.

GLEAN – Portland, Oregon
Modeled after the Recology Artist in Residence Program in San Francisco, GLEAN is a partnership between Recology Portland; Metro, the regional government that guides the region’s garbage and recycling systems; and, crackedpots, an environmental arts organization. Launched in 2011, GLEAN’s mission is to prompt people to think about their consumption habits, inspire creative reuse, and initiate larger conversations about the waste we generate.

In February of every year, five artists from Multnomah, Washington, and Clackamas counties are chosen by a jury of local arts and environmental professionals to help promote new ways of thinking about conserving resources, art and the environment. Each artist receives a stipend and privileges to scavenge discarded materials at Metro Central transfer station in Northwest Portland. The program culminates with a formal exhibition in the fall at
Disjecta Gallery.
