The CBAA was awarded a $9,983 Community Grant by the City of Cannon Beach for the organizations long term commitment to enhancing the lives of coastal residents by providing relevant cultural programming.
Every year, the City of Cannon Beach awards funds to non-profits who are committed to improving the lives of residents through a variety of programs. The CBAA uses these funds to execute our mission of supporting the arts and artists in Cannon Beach and the region through education, events, and exhibits, including the Cannon Beach Gallery, a Summer Internship Program, an Annual Summer Art Camp, and the Individual Artist Grant.
The CBAA has a new slate of officers for the coming year, with Mary Bess Gloria moving into the position of Chairman of the Board.
Mary Bess Gloria’s passion for the arts on the Northern Oregon Coast have been proven over the last two years with her involvement in the CBAA, as well as her efforts with the Celebration of the Arts at Seaside Heights Elementary School.
The new Vice Chair is board member, Cindi Plath. Susie Simon will continue as the Secretary and Carolyn Propst as the Treasurer.
Beth Holland has joined the board as the head of a new Fundraising Subcommittee, she will be reaching out to our circle of friends in the coming months to help the CBAA develop fundraising strategy.

There have been a long list of improvements to the Cannon Beach Gallery in recent years, but there are still a couple of big items on our To-Do List.
The next item that we would like to check off of that list is having the floors refinished this winter during the inevitable slow season that is ahead of us.
The CBAA has garnered it’s first donation toward this end, from a generous member of the arts association. If you would like to add to the proverbial pot, please stop the Cannon Beach Gallery, give us a call at 503-436-0744 or send a check to the CBAA / attention floors to our mailing address, P.O. Box 684, Cannon Beach, Oregon, 97110.
Our fundraising goal is $2,200 for this project.
Sculptor M.J. Anderson will be joined by fine art photographer Claudia Toutain-Dorbec in this dynamic two woman show which will run from October 3 – November 2, 2014. The Artist’s Reception will be held on Saturday, October 4 from 5-7pm.
Claudia Toutain-Dorbec will be showing large scale color photographs that were taken during her residency at Claude Monet’s Garden over a five month period in 2009. This will be the first time that the work has been shown in Oregon.
M.J. Anderson is a well known Oregon sculptor who works in marble to create both figurative and abstract sculpture. M.J. has spent a portion of each year – for the last 25 years, working in a studio above Carrara, Italy. She finds marble, roughs out sculptures and completes larger commissions which are later shipped back to the U.S. These are a couple of images of her work life in Italy.
